Hi, my name is Tom. I'm an English teacher from Oxford, England.

I achieved a distinction grade in my CELTA and have more than four years’ experience teaching English, including extensive online tutoring.

I have designed this course for ages 10 - 14, and for small groups. I’ve carefully chosen the topics and designed my lessons to be interesting and useful for these ages. I never talk down to young learners, respecting their opinions and needs. Learners on this course should understand some English already, but you don’t need to be perfect! Each session, we will work on a different topic:

• Travel
• Jobs and Occupations
• Films and Television
• Music and Dance
• Technology
• Art

My sessions will be interactive and give the students time to practice their speaking and pronunciation. This is so important, as often students are taught only to pass exams. This means that when it comes to communicating naturally in English, they struggle. Learning languages is tricky, and confidence is so important. I like my students to feel comfortable making mistakes and to ask lots of questions.

We will also work on students’ writing skills, learning creative writing techniques such as simile and metaphor, as well as perfecting our grammar. I will set students a homework task at the end of each lesson based on what we have learnt in class. The task will take less that one hour, then they will send it to me so I can mark it and offer personal advice on how to improve.

These sessions will improve learners’ English level and teach skills that they can apply to their High School Diplomas.
