- I'm a multilingual (English, Dutch, French and Mandarin) CELTA-certified English teacher and filmmaker who was born in New-York, grew up in Brussels, has lived in Beijing for 7 years and has spent several months in Hong Kong. In Beijing I worked as an English teacher for two years before starting to working full-time in video-production with a focus on documentary film and outdoor sports videos.
Recently I decided to get back to English teaching and completed a CELTA-certificate. I believe that a good teacher is someone who helps the student to discover new knowledge and develop new skills. I firmly believe that any student can meet and exceed their goals as long as they find the right way to get there and I am very excited to help you find that way.
In our classes we will look at what you want to improve on regarding your English language skills and use topics that motivate you to help you get there. My academic background in Chinese Studies and Chinese Law and wide range of interests including history, technology, philosophy etc. gives me a wide range of knowledge that I can draw from to keep our classes challenging, fun and interesting for you!
Whether it's expanding your vocabulary regarding certain domains, improving your grammar accuracy, or helping you become a more fluent speaker or writer, the classes will be tailor-made according to your needs and your learning style so that we get the most out of our time together.
Additionally, if you're interested in improving your photography or videography skills, I can definitely help you with that as well. I have over 5 years experience as a photographer and filmmaker and I have worked for TV productions and clients such as Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, etc. For examples of my work, see: www.kareldownsbrough.com
