- About Me
- I have over a year and a half of experience of face-to-face English tutoring to individuals and small groups of all ages, as well as working with large groups of children in a non-classroom setting (at an outdoor English camp). I started my journey tutoring English in Spain, whilst at the same time going to a language school to learn Spanish and completing my TEFL certificate. When I moved back to London, I found online English teaching was fantastic and flexible for my time during and in between study. In addition to my native language, British English, I now speak Spanish at an intermediate-advanced level, and Portuguese at a basic level, as well as my mother's native language, Gujarati. I have always had a love for languages and learning about other people's cultures, and in the past, I have volunteered in organising language exchanges and took part in organising the first international language festival in the UK.
During this time of teaching, I always liked to find games and media catered to my individual students' interests. Being a lover of movement, dance and theatre, I like to organise and play physical games with flash cards or household objects to get the children moving and learning at the same time during face-to-face tutoring. With online tutoring I still try to include some movement for English warm ups. However online tutoring also has the benefit of sharing media with screen shares or uploading, so I sometimes upload images during the class or send video/article links for homework. With children I like to use finger puppets and household objects as well as utilise my drawing skills to engage them more. With adults I like to elicit more opinionated discussion, and enjoy listening to their views on different topics that are suggested by the pre-planned class. I try and encourage descriptive answers, and always like to get a student writing a small story or poem about what they have learned when there is an opportunity.
