- Hi everyone!
I'm from the UK and I graduated from the University of St Andrews with a First Class Honours in French, Russian, and Spanish. I'm also TEFL certified!
(I'm also a native Cantonese/Hakka speaker!)
I've been tutoring part-time for 4 years and I offer a variety of language tutorials at various levels. I've delivered tutorials in French, Spanish, German, Latin, English Language, and English Literature. I've supported both adult learners and students going through the British school system.
My current students include A Level French, GCSE Spanish, GCSE English Literature, Key Stage 2 English (7-11-year-olds), Adult Beginners French, and Adult Beginners Spanish.
Some of my previous students included Common Entrance exam Latin, 13 + German, GCSE French, and Business French.
In terms of my teaching style, I would say that it predominantly revolves around achieving results in the context of an encouraging and inspiring environment. Students can only truly do well if they love what they're learning. Too often, we're focussed on nailing mark schemes and cramming facts but that approach can't work unless it's paired with a genuine enthusiasm/love for your subject.
If students have a particular weakness that they need support for (i.e. grammar rules, oral skills, essay-writing, vocab-learning), I'm happy to make tailored lesson plans! If they're looking for general improvement, I can work with them on additional exercises that accompany their curriculum. Generally, I like alternating between reading/writing lessons and oral/listening lessons. I usually start each lesson with a quick troubleshoot for anything that they might have come across during the week before launching into the agenda for the tutorial. I also like mixing up grammar/translation with freer exercises - such as creative writing or an oral discussion of a current event. But I'm always happy to adapt and change for each student!
