- Hello!
My name is Tommy. I am a polyglot and musician from Britain who speaks seven languages! Ever since I was a child, I was always intrigued by the languages I would hear on holiday and frustrated at my inability to communicate with those around me. Because of this, I took every opportunity to learn new languages from thereon. I have a constant drive to be learning something new which I am passionate about, always taking up new hobbies and, of course, languages; I seek to empower my students with this same passion for the subjects I teach.
In the last five years, I have spent one year in Portugal and two and a half years in Austria, gaining near-native language proficiency in both German and Portuguese and a deep understanding of multiple dialects within each of these.
Seeing a student’s progression throughout their time with me is what pushes me to develop my teaching ability further and further. It is precisely this desire which helped so many of my German secondary school students to see such stark improvements in their school grades and which helped ten students to learn to read the Russian Cyrillic alphabet within four hours of teaching with me. I promise good results and firmly believe that there is no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher.
My innate passion for tutoring lies in the creation and provision of the highest-quality learning materials which seek to engage my students from the start to finish of our lessons. I offer unique lesson plans which find the perfect balance between the interactive, e.g., learning through relevant literature, current affairs and media, and the more traditional approach of grammar exercises and grading. This way, we can ensure that a student’s progress is always optimally tracked whilst keeping them motivated.

- My Teaching Style
- I teach in a very relaxed manner and always create my lesson plans to be entirely geared towards each individual student. This way, we can get the most out of every minute taught!
I always provide homework tasks that help to solidify topics dealt with in lessons.
I enjoy using modern media to enhance a student's motivation. In language learning, utilising modern platforms such as: Netflix, Prime Video and Spotify is fantastic, as we now have access to so much content in other languages and can use them to become more effective learners.
I use small assessments as one way of gauging where knowledge has been retained and where more work needs to be done. This is always outlined in a student report.
I can help a lot with pronunciation, as this is my specialty. In German, especially, I speak without any accent and have complete command of the language.
